Do I Need To Read All Of The Small Print On My Travel Insurance Policy?
So much small print ? So little time!
Read it all. We strongly recommend that you read all of the terms and conditions of your policy. Especially the clauses that tell you what you are and are not covered for. Hopefully your insurer will have provided a policy document that is relatively simple to understand. But if not, check on the definitions that have been used in the policy document.
Seek clarification. If there is anything that you're unsure about, ask your insurer to provide clarification of the issues in writing. Don't rely upon verbal explanations. Unless they're prepared to say it in writing, then you can't rely upon it.
Don't sign up without the policy. Ensure that the insurer provides you with a copy of the policy documents before you sign up for the insurance. And ensure that you read them carefully before handing over your money. Whilst many jurisdictions offer a cooling off period, it is much better to know where you stand before making any commitment.
Take a copy with you. We recommend that you take a copy of the travel insurance policy with you on your travels. At the very least, this allows you to verify the steps you need to take if something happens during the trip. It can also be absolutely a lifesaving issue if you need urgent medical attention and need to prove that you have adequate coverage to pay for the treatment.
